Building Construction - Regenerative Design and Innovative Facade

The ‘Building Construction - Regenerative Design and Innovative Facade’ innovation centre researches and develops
building envelopes of the future with a focus on glass and façade construction.
The fields of research include design and construction, energy efficiency and sustainability as well as adhesive technology and film laminates. With the
Friedrich Siemens Laboratory, which offers extensive testing facilities for components, glass constructions and façades, in order to carry out experimental analyses and testing of adhesive bonds. The aim is to create transparent and sustainable building envelope constructions.

Research and development

Dimensioning & Construction:
Development of new types of constructions, connections and façade concepts under the extreme stresses of a changing climate. Examples include explosion and bullet-resistant façades, water-filled glass elements and transparent lightweight constructions made of glass and plastics. Experimental material analyses, damage assessment and evaluation of building constructions according to their sustainability and recyclability.
Energy efficiency & sustainability:
Climate-friendly construction with a focus on building-integrated photovoltaic and solar thermal systems as well as energy-efficient building envelopes.
Bonding technology & film laminates:
Investigation of material-compatible connection techniques for load-bearing glass structures.
