- 1999–2000: Sub-programme manager at ABB: responsible for research in the fields of power electronic systems, electric drives and machines
- 1998–2001: Head of the ‘Electric Drive Systems’ group at the ABB Research Centre in Heidelberg
- 1996–1998: Scientist and project manager in the Power Electronics group at the ABB Research Centre in Heidelberg
- 1995–1996: Postdoctoral researcher at the University of Wisconsin-Madison (USA)
- 1995: Doctorate at the Technical University of Ilmenau (topic: Power semiconductors as zero-current switches in converters with soft switching processes)
