Launch of the GlobalFoundries Dresden project
Dresden has established itself as a leading hub for the semiconductor industry in Germany. The current high level of investment by chip manufacturers in the region demonstrates a strong and long-term commitment to expanding semiconductor production and innovation. A major investor and leading contract manufacturer is GlobalFoundries Dresden. The company plans to expand its chip production to over 1 million wafers per year by 2028. To achieve this efficiently, further research and the pooling of expertise are necessary.
As part of the EU-funded initiative “IPCEI Microelectronics and Communication Technology (ME/CT)”, the semiconductor manufacturer has now launched another promising collaboration with the Database Technology Research Group at TU Dresden and GWT-TUD GmbH.
The aim of the joint project “Overarching Process Dependencies” is to predict and minimise quality risks in semiconductor manufacturing at an early stage. The focus is on preventing problems for customers. To achieve this, the potential risks of critical manufacturing steps are to be closely monitored and suspect wafers sorted out during the manufacturing process itself.
The research project will run until the end of December 2027.
GWT is delighted to contribute to the growth and competitiveness of microelectronics in Dresden.
