Traffic Process Automation

The Innovation Center for Traffic Process Automation conducts research in the areas of traffic guidance systems, traffic control systems and traffic management in the context of rail- and road-bound traffic. The focus is on traffic telematics, which optimizes traffic flows and makes them as efficient and automated as possible for all road users, while at the same time conserving resources and providing equal opportunities for all stakeholders. In road traffic, an energy-saving driving style is planned by highly automated vehicles using traffic-dependent switched traffic signals, green time predictions, energy-efficient routing, and tailback length estimation, and their practical implementation is implemented with the help of driver assistance systems in public transport.

In the field of passenger and freight transport, methods for optimizing and making usable control technology as well as software and algorithms are developed with the aim of real-time capable application. Together with experts from research, industry and the public sector, software-based solutions are developed and pursued to product maturity in the field of passenger and freight transport and presented as prototypes.

Career and professional stations:

  • Since December 2021 W3-Professor and Head of the Chair of Traffic Process Automation, Faculty of Transport Sciences "Friedrich List", Technische Universität Dresden.
  • 2014 Obtained Ph. D with distinction in the Department of Transport and Planning, Faculty of Civil Engineering and Geosciences at Delft University of Technology, The Netherlands.
  • Before that, visiting doctoral student at the Technical University of Dresden as well as PostDoc, Assistant Professor and Co-Director at the Technical University in Delf, Netherlands and Research Assistant/Department Head at the National Center of ITS Engineering & Technology, China

Research and development

  • Research in the field of automated driving/intelligent vehicles for transport processes (passenger and freight transport).
  • Estimation, modeling and control of traffic conditions.
  • Environmentally friendly vehicle control and traffic management systems
  • Evaluation of data and mathematical models for the networking of road users.
  • Control of individual, but also collective behavior of road users based on models and data.
  • Implementation of previous research results in practice, establishment of laboratories as simulation environments.
