  • Development of novel machine and control concepts in connection with renewable energies (wind, photovoltaics, fuel cells) and energy efficiencies (motors, magnetic bearings, plants) and evaluation of these concepts with regard to overall efficiency and applicability

  • Research on the development of energy-efficient power converter topologies based on new semiconductor power devices.
  • Development of solutions in magnetic bearing technology with regard to low-loss bearing arrangements and reduction of friction losses in fast rotating drives

  • Research with a focus on the application of regenerative electromechanical energy converters, especially for wind turbines

  • Development of efficient cooling processes for compact engines
  • Development of solutions for the replacement of water cooling in electrical machines by air cooling
  • Development of the technical maturity of new design possibilities such as transverse cooling or the use of heat pipes in electrical machine construction
